Greeley Grindhouse Presents…

Planet of DinosaursWoohooo! It’s Greeley Grindhouse time at Greeley Avenue Bar and Grill this Thursday, July 24th, at 7:20 p.m. Join us for “Planet of Dinosaurs” made in 1977.

After mechanical issues on the spaceship Odyssey, Captain Lee Norsythe (Louie Lawless) is forced to crash land on a planet with atmosphere and conditions very similar to Earth. As the ship sinks into the lake, communications officer Cindy (Mary Appleseth) realizes that she forgot the radio in the ship and attempts to retrieve it, with the assistance of fellow crew-member Chuck (Chuck Pennington). During the search, Cindy is attacked and killed by an unidentified creature. Chuck decides continuing the search for the radio isn’t the best idea and leaves it behind.

Realizing that they are stranded, the remaining eight people decide to explore the planet. After exploring for a while they run into a Brontosaurus, and it dawns on them that the planet is following a similar evolutionary track as Earth, but is millions of years behind.

Their luck doesn’t improve as Charlotte (Charlotte Speer) realizes that the plant life, especially the berries, are poisonous, and Lee witnesses a fight between a Stegosaurus and a large Tyrannosaurus.  Lee decides that the best option is to climb the mountains and reach higher ground where he thinks the creatures will be unable to reach them.

During the climb, Nyla (Pamela Bottaro) slips and loses the entire supply of food rations. In a cave higher up the mountain, Vice-President of Spaceways Incorporated Harvey Baylor (Harvey Shain) discovers a nest full of eggs. After stealing an egg, Harvey is attacked and killed by a Centrosaurus. Soon after, much to ship engineer Jim’s (James Whitworth) dismay, Lee decides to halt the expedition and settle at what he considers an area where they can defend themselves and the idea of never being rescued is now beginning to settle in. After several more encounters, including a giant spider, Struthiomimus and an Allosaurus, the large Tyrannosaurus arrives and kills Derna, demolishing the stockade in the process.

So what happens next with this crew who is dwindling away? Will they be rescued or are they forever left to fend themselves against dangerous dinosaurs? Will they stick together as a team or turn on each other as well?

Find out this Thursday night, July 24th, at 7:20 p.m.

Have a great week and we’ll see ya there!

Greeley Grindhouse Presents…

Invasion of the Bee Girls

It’s Greeley Grindhouse time! Mac Bell and Greeley are showing “Invasion of the Bee Girls” and you won’t want to miss this 1973 sci-fi film. Join us Thursday, June 26th, at 7:20 p.m.

Here’s the scoop:

Neil Agar, a special agent with the State Department’s Office of Security, is called to Peckham, California to investigate the death of John Grubowsky. Upon arrival Neil meets the laboratory’s head librarian, Julie Zorn, and then begins interviewing the firm’s leading scientists. But not long after he begins the investigation things take a turn with a growing number of deaths, and all of them men who died of congestive heart failure caused by sexual exhaustion.

Faced with a rapidly escalating body count, the local sheriff, Captain Peters, calls a town meeting in which the laboratory’s leading sex researcher, Henry Murger, urges the town to practice sexual abstinence. Needless to say the town wasn’t too excited with the idea.

After the town meeting, Neil and Julie arrange a time to meet with Murger to discuss his theories concerning the cause of deaths. But that meeting never occurred. Neil and Julie witnessed Murger chased down and run over by a car with an unseen driver. While investigating Murger’s home in search of clues, Neil discovers a secret room concealing sexual paraphernalia and Murger’s gay lover, Joe, who informs Neil that he saw Murger driving off with an unknown woman prior to his death.

Neil continues his investigation and is met with constant twists and turns. So how does he solve the murders? Who’s good and who’s not? Join us and see how the story unfolds.

Invasion of the Bee Girls was titled the Graveyard Tramps in the UK version. This was the first film venture for writer Nicholas Meyer. It was directed by Denis Sanders and starred William Smith, Anitra Ford and Victoria Vetri. Meyer almost didn’t put his name to the project after he saw it, but was later convinced by his manager.

Greeley Grindhouse Presents…

The brainOh yes, it’s that time again…Mac Bell is hosting Greeley Grindhouse and presenting “The Brain That Wouldn’t Die”! This horror film was produced in 1962.

Here’s the scoop:

A scientist, Dr. Bill Cortner, (played by Jason Evers) performs medical experiments in his basement laboratory including bringing his fiancé back from the dead after a horrible car accident that decapitates her. Bill’s main area of interest and what he considers his expertise, is transplantation mixed in with a bit of electric shock to restore life to the recently deceased.

When Bill causes a car crash that decapitates his fiancée, Jan Compton, (played by Virginia Leith) he rushes her head off to his laboratory and keeps it alive with an experimental new serum. However, he needs a body for her so he begins searching  the dives, strip clubs, and suburban streets for an attractive woman whose body he can steal to restore Jan. But, Jan isn’t excited about that idea and begins to hate Bill for not allowing her to die. Developing telepathic powers that allow her to communicate with one of Bill’s failed experiments that turned into a monster, she begins to plot her revenge.

Finally, Bill has the perfect candidate for bringing Jan back to her full potential, figure model Doris Powell. However, Bill has quite a surprise in store when he returns to the lab and finds there is a woman scorned waiting for him!

The promotional tagline for The Brain That Wouldn’t Die was “Alive…
without a body…fed by an unspeakable horror from hell!” The film helped provide the inspiration for ’80s horror/comedy director Frank Henenlotter’s Frankenhooker and Basket Case 2.

Have a great week and we’ll see ya there!

Greeley Grindhouse Presents…

Night of the LepusIt’s time for the Greeley Grindhouse and this month Mac Bell presents Night of the Lepus. This isn’t a bunny foo foo movie, this rabbit is a true killer. Night of the Lepus, also known as Rabbits, is a 1972 American science fiction horror film based on the 1964 science fiction novel “The Year of the Angry Rabbit.”

Rancher Cole Hillman, played by Rory Calhoun, seeks the help of college president Elgin Clark and DeForest Kelley to combat thousands of rabbits that have taken over the area after the coyotes were all killed.  Elgin asks for the assistance of researchers Roy, Stuart Whitman, Gerry Bennett and Janet Leigh in order to find another way to rid the town of the rabbits other than cyanide. Roy suggests using hormones that will disrupt their breeding cycle instead. After everyone agrees, Roy takes a few rabbits to begin experimenting on. After injecting one of the rabbits, Amanda, Melanie Fullerton, falls in love with it and she switches it with one from the control group. Not long after Amanda takes it home, the rabbit escapes.

Large animal tracks begin appearing near the rabbit’s burrows and not long after people are missing and turn up mutilated all over town. Elgin, the Bennett’s, Cole and Cole’s two ranch hands, Frank and Jud, go to the mine in order to get some explosives to kill the rabbits. Just as Elgin and Cole light the explosives, Roy and Frank enter the shaft to get pictures; and a rabbit appears out of the burrow and attacks Jud. However, Roy and Frank make it out and escape the rabbits in the mine as the explosives are detonated.

But, there’s bad news, the explosives don’t kill the rabbits, but the rabbits are pissed and seek revenge!

Don’t miss this epic battle of man vs. bunny! The fun begins Thursday, April 17th at 7:20 p.m.

Have a great week and we’ll see ya there!

Greeley Grindhouse Presents…

Christmas EvilMac Bell’s got something a little naughty this season. Come on in and join us at the Greeley Grindhouse on Tuesday, December 17th for a showing of the holiday slasher classic: CHRISTMAS EVIL (1980). Show starts at 7:20 PM.

Christmas Evil, also known as “You Better Watch Out” and “Terror in Toyland”, is a 1980 film considered obscure, but with a cult following.

This film was previously released as “You Better Watch Out”. Though not as popular, predates the horror film “Silent Night, Deadly Night, in which a deranged man goes on a murderous rampage dressed up as Santa Claus.

What’s this movie about you ask? Christmas Eve – 1947 little Harry catches his mother being groped by his father, who is dressed up as Santa. Heartbroken, the child then rushes up to the attic and cuts his hand with a shard of glass from a shattered snow globe.

Thirty-three years later, an adult Harry works a lousy job at Jolly Dreams toy factory, and in his personal life has dedicated his time to become the next true Santa Clause. He sleeps in a Santa costume, and his apartment overflows with Christmas toys and décor. He uses binoculars to spy on neighborhood children to see if they have been ‘bad or good’ and adds their names in his “Bad Boys & Girls” book.

It’s not long before Harry realizes that people generally consider him a “schmuck” and is constantly made fun of by others bringing on a complete nervous breakdown. He is now convinced that he truly is Santa Claus, and the mayhem begins!

Stay tuned for twists, turns and plot blunders as Santa seeks revenge on all the naughty “boys and girls”.

Have a great week and we’ll see ya there!
