August is Here, Do You Know What That Means?

footballAugust means a lot of things, but there’s one really awesome thing that August brings and that’s football!! I realize that it’s only the NFL preseason games, but if you’re a fan, you’re a fan and any football will work. So not only does the NFL start their first preseason game August 7th, but our Ducks and Beavers play their first games at the end of the month. The excitement is about to begin!

In the spirit of football, here are some interesting NFL facts for you in case Roy Smallwood asks questions during Quizzy Trivia on Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m.

  • 78% of NFL players are bankrupt just two years after finishing their careers! There’s a group of “Science Cheerleaders,” former NFL and NBA Cheerleaders who go around getting people interested in science! The longest field goal in NFL history was kicked by a man who had only half a foot!
  • NFL cheerleaders only make $50 a game!
  • During a typical NFL game, the ball is only in play for 11 minutes!
  • When former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner dines out with his family, he always anonymously picks up the bill for one other table.
  • Deion  Sanders is the only person to hit an MLB home run and NFL touchdown in the same week. He’s also the only person to play in the World Series and the Super Bowl.
  • The American Sports industry is worth $422 billion and employs 1% of the population!
  • The Baltimore Ravens are named after Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven.”
  • For over a decade, players that were featured on the cover of the Madden NFL video games were ‘cursed’ with a serious injury or a dramatic reduction in performance during the following season.
  • The ‘G’ on the Green Bay Packers helmet does not stand for ‘Green Bay’.
  • The huddle formation used in football came from deaf football players.

Have a great week and we’ll see ya there!

The Oregon Ducks travel to California to play against Stanford November 7th. Will the Ducks continue their streak of winning and stomp them? Stanford has also done well this season. This might turn into a well matched, hard hitting game!

The Beavers will travel to Arizona, but not til the 16th of November. So stay tuned for more information and what time the game will play at Greeley.

Greeley has some great beers on tap including:

  • Believer
  • Chasin’ Freshies
  • Country Boy IPA

Believer, brewed by Ninkasi Brewing in Eugene, Oregon offers a 6.9% AVB and IBU of 60. This beer pours a clear blood orange and a smell of resiny hops and a bready rye. The flavor is bitter with a red beer spicy accent. A good dose of sweetened malts, some bits of tea hops and a cinnamon like finish. Medium bodied with reserved carb and a bit of a dry finish.

We are a week away from Halloween! 2013 has flown by and the upcoming holidays will arrive before we know it, but in the meantime Greeley has some football!

The Ducks and Beavers are having a great year so far! UCLA travels to Oregon to meet the Ducks at Autzen Stadium Saturday, October 26th. Everyone’s talking NFL, who’s hot and who’s not. The Seahawks lost by a touchdown to the Indianapolis Colts a few weeks ago which cost them their status of being undefeated. I’m sure we would all love to see them at the Superbowl this year so hopefully they will stay focused and move forward.

Other teams that are kicking butt include the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs. Although, the Broncos lost their undefeated position also against the Colts last Sunday, they are utilizing Peyton Manning and seeing huge gains overalll.  It’s been a while since the Chiefs have done well, but their proving themselves so far this season. • Panthers at Bucaneers

Sunday, October 27th:
