August means Football at Greeley!

oregon ducksOh yes, August is an awesome month with the beginning of football all the way around! Who doesn’t love football whether it’s college or pro? Of course everyone is talking about the Seahawks and what will they look like this year? Will the cowboys ever win another super bowl or are they washed up forever? And, what’s going on with the Vikings?

The Oregon Ducks and Beavers kick off their first official game on Saturday, August 30th. What’s the buzz on the Ducks right now?

“Oregon plays a challenging schedule in 2014, drawing four teams that finished the 2013 campaign ranked in the final Associated Press Top 25 Poll. Combine those match-ups with the ever-increasing depth of the entire Pac-12, and the Ducks’ path to the College Football Playoff is dotted with potential potholes. Each of the five most important games on the Ducks’ schedule poses its own unique test, though all are crucial to Oregon’s championship ambitions.”   ~ Bleacher Report

We shall see, and of course Greeley will have every game available!

Here’s some college football trivia for you.

  • The first Orange Bowl was played in 1935 between the University of Miami and Manhattan College. To save money, the Manhattan College team took a three-day boat ride to Miami.
  • Irvine Cotton Warburton is the only member of the College Football Hall of Fame to receive an Academy Award. He won for his film editing work on 1964’s Mary Poppins.
  • Chief Osceola, the Florida State mascot who rides out and plants a flaming spear at midfield before each home game, has been approved by Florida’s Seminole Indian Tribe.
  • In the 1940s, college bowl games included the Raisin Bowl, Salad Bowl and Oil Bowl.
  • Michigan holds the record for the most bowl appearances (31).
  • During the 1990s, Prairie View College put together an 80-game losing streak. One season, they were outscored each game by an average margin of 56 to 4.
  • The Oklahoma Sooners hold the record for the longest winning streak in college football. The streak lasted 47 games, from 1954 until 1957.
  • The most laterals in a game (8) came during the Michigan Wolverines’ final play of the Alamo Bowl in 2005.
  • Before every home game, flowers are placed at the graves of every former Uga (the English Bulldog mascot of Georgia).

Have a great week and we’ll see ya there!

Greeley Grindhouse Presents…

ManitouEveryone had another great night at the Greeley Grindhouse last month. The crowd keeps getting bigger and bigger. Thanks to everyone who came to watch killer brains attack in FIEND WITHOUT A FACE (1958). Join us this Thursday, February 13th, as Greeley shows THE MANITOU (1978), the story of an evil Indian medicine man….who grows out of a woman’s neck.

You’ll think twice next time you feel a lump in your neck, but don’t panic! You most likely have a swollen gland, but unfortunately for Karen, played by Susan Strasberg, she wasn’t quite so lucky.

The movie opens with Karen arriving at a San Francisco hospital due to suffering from a growing tumor on her neck. The staff rushes her off for X-rays and after some discussion; the doctors begin to think her tumor is a living creature…a fetus being born inside the tumor.

Strange and gruesome things begin to occur. In fact, the tumor thinks it’s under attack as a result of the X-rays used to discover exactly what it is. And, the X-rays left side effects and the tumor is beginning to stunt and develop deformities.

What exactly is this growth? How about an old Native American shaman, Misquamacus, who is reincarnating himself through the young woman to exact his revenge on white men who invaded North America and exterminated his people.

A second Native American shaman is contacted and hired to help fight the reincarnating medicine man, but the kind of spirits he can summon and control appears too weak to match his opponent’s abilities.

What’s next in this battle of the shamans, and what happens to Karen? Join us at 7:20 p.m. and find out!

Have a great week and we’ll see ya there!

Greeley Grindhouse Presents…

Christmas EvilMac Bell’s got something a little naughty this season. Come on in and join us at the Greeley Grindhouse on Tuesday, December 17th for a showing of the holiday slasher classic: CHRISTMAS EVIL (1980). Show starts at 7:20 PM.

Christmas Evil, also known as “You Better Watch Out” and “Terror in Toyland”, is a 1980 film considered obscure, but with a cult following.

This film was previously released as “You Better Watch Out”. Though not as popular, predates the horror film “Silent Night, Deadly Night, in which a deranged man goes on a murderous rampage dressed up as Santa Claus.

What’s this movie about you ask? Christmas Eve – 1947 little Harry catches his mother being groped by his father, who is dressed up as Santa. Heartbroken, the child then rushes up to the attic and cuts his hand with a shard of glass from a shattered snow globe.

Thirty-three years later, an adult Harry works a lousy job at Jolly Dreams toy factory, and in his personal life has dedicated his time to become the next true Santa Clause. He sleeps in a Santa costume, and his apartment overflows with Christmas toys and décor. He uses binoculars to spy on neighborhood children to see if they have been ‘bad or good’ and adds their names in his “Bad Boys & Girls” book.

It’s not long before Harry realizes that people generally consider him a “schmuck” and is constantly made fun of by others bringing on a complete nervous breakdown. He is now convinced that he truly is Santa Claus, and the mayhem begins!

Stay tuned for twists, turns and plot blunders as Santa seeks revenge on all the naughty “boys and girls”.

Have a great week and we’ll see ya there!
